I just got back from the AHA shindig in Denver, and thought I'd pass on a bit of trivia.
You know that Ron Mahan and Brian St. Clair won medals in the final round out there (yes, the others were robbed), but here's something that you won't find on the AHA website.
I was on the Best of Show panel (five senior judges from different parts of the country), and when we got down to the last three beers, it got a bit tougher than usual. We finally agreed on third place, but the top two beers were so wonderful and so perfect that we actually debated over them for nearly ten minutes. Judges went first one way, then the other, back and forth. We finally agreed, but honestly, it nearly came down to a coin toss. That's how close Brian's beer came to being Best of Show.
